Brenda Van Der Burgt
Brenda Van Der Burgt is a graduate of the Class of 1986. While in high school, she participated 4 years in basketball and softball and 2 years in track. In track she lettered her freshman and sophomore years. Basketball saw Brenda letter 3 times. She was selected All conference for 2 years and was named MVP and Captain during those years. She led the team in scoring and made several of her shots beyond the current 3 point mark so was only given credit for a 2 point shot. As a senior she was also named to the Post Crescent All Area Team. In softball she lettered all 4 years and was selected all conference in her junior and senior years. She again was selected MVP and Captain during those years. During Class Night, Brenda received the American Legion Award as the outstanding female athlete.
After graduating fro KHS, Brenda went to UW Stevens Point. She participated in both basketball and softball for 2 years In 1992 she graduated with a BS degree in Exercise Physiology.
Graduation took her to several internships. Her final internship in corporate fitness took her to Tampa, FL where she currently resides. Brenda is now working for Pearson Inc where she sells professional development to school districts in the Southeastern states of FL, GA, AL, SC, and MS. She has a 9 year old son named Justin.
Ron Viaene
Ron Viaene is a 1986 graduate of KHS. While in high school Ron excelled in football and wrestling.
Wrestling found Ron, lettering all 4 years. During his career, he was named all conference 3 times, conference champ 2 times, regional champ 2 times, sectional champ 2 times, and a 2 time state qualifier. As a senior, he placed 4th in the state. In 1086, he was named Captain, MVP, and the 1986 FVA Wrestler of the Year. He was selected to a Wisconsin-Minnesota Classic Exchange Team. He was also a 2 time member of the National Greco Roman Team. In football, Ron letter 2 times during his 4 year career and was selected all conference for 2 years. As a senior he was named captain, MVP, and was the FVA Lineman of the Year.
After leaving KHS, Ron went to the University of Minnesota Duluth where he was a four year starter in football. During his college career, he played defensive tackle. He was named all conference and as a team won 2 conference championships. He finished with the most career tackles in team history. Ron graduated with a major in criminology and a minor in sociology in 1991.
In 1991, Ron was signed as a free agent with the Houston Oilers. Although the NFL was not meant to be for Ron, he pursued his degree and is currently employed by the Outagamie County Sheriff Department. He has been there for the past 19 years. Ron was involved in coaching youth sports in football, soccer, and little league baseball. Ron currently resides in Hortonville. He has a son Jake who is 15 and a daughter Allison who is 12.
Sam Nytes
Sam Nytes enters the Hall of Fame as a 1986 graduate. During his high school career, he participated all four years in football, basketball, and baseball. While in football, Sam lettered 3 times. He received All Conference honors 3 times. During his senior year, Sam was selected MVP and Captain. He earned 2 letters in basketball and also was named twice to the all conference team. The Post Crescent named him to their all area team. Sam also was selected at MVP and Captain. He was a team leader in scoring and rebounds. In baseball, Sam lettered 2 times and selected all conference as a junior and senior. With these honors, he was also selected MVP and Captain as a senior. During Class Night, Sam was awarded the American Legion Athletic Award and received the Guy Krumm Scholarship.
While not participating in sports in college, he received a BS degree from UW Stevens Point. He later went on to receive a MA degree from Marian University.
After his college graduation, Sam did some coaching boy’s basketball and football for grades 7 & 8. He also did some coaching for 6th grade girl’s basketball.
Sam presently is a science teacher in the Fond du Lac School District where he has taught for 20 years. He is married to Kristin Paulson (’86) and has two sons Jack and Jeb ages 10 and 7. He currently resides in Cascade, WI.
