Medication training for all certified staff.
According to Wis. Stat. sec. 118.29, Wisconsin school personnel and volunteers must be trained and found competent before administering certain medications to students. The knowledge (webcasts) training and assessment tests are to be completed at least every four years, while the skills competency check-off should be completed annually.
Believe it or not, it has been 4 years since the entire staff went through the on-line training for medication administration. In order to keep the process consistent we are asking that all certified staff complete this on-line training (even if you are new to our District and it has not yet been 4 years since the last time you took it).
The District has set aside 2 ½ hours during the fall inservice days for you to do the on-line portion of the training.
You should do the medication on-line training at your own computer or with a peer. There are three tests (see attached) that need to be completed and turned in to me; I would review the test prior to watching the webcast.
Here is the link to the DPI medication training site:
Once on the website you will want to scroll down to the medication training requirement section and view the webcasts:
· Epipen (html)
· Rescue inhaler (html)
· Oral (html)
If you choose to complete the on-line training and the tests on your own time over the summer, you are free to work in your classroom during the allotted District training time in the fall.
The skills check is a brief hands on in which I will have sample medication supplies like inhalers and epi-pens to look at. I will also give you an opportunity to ask questions during the skill portion of the training. You will need to complete this skills portion prior to going on a field trip. I will be sending out information next fall on when these skill trainings will be available at your school. If you have a field trip the first two weeks of school please let me know.

All certified staff must complete both the on-line and the skills training.
