The Police/School Liaison Officer (PSLO) has many roles. He/she is a law enforcement officer who has an obligation to serve, protect, and uphold the law. He/she is a listener and a friend to young people. The PSLO is a resource person to students, families, the school, and the community. The PSLO is also a referral agent. He/she is acquainted with the kinds of help that are available on the local level to young people and their families. The PSLO serves an educational function by assisting in the provision of courses of study designed to acquaint students with the law, the ways in which it operates on the local/state level, and how it touches their lives.
