April 3, 2019 – The residents of the Kaukauna Area School District did not support the $32.9 million referendum question on the April 2, 2019 ballot. The preliminary vote count was 3,007 opposed and 2,690 in favor.
The referendum was intended to provide funding for additional safety and security upgrades at all schools; reconfiguration to a 4K-4 model and necessary renovations at the elementary level; and educational space improvements at River View Middle School.
“Yes, we are disappointed,” said KASD Superintendent Mark Duerwaechter. “However, we respect the voice of our community. As we teach our kids each day: when faced with disappointment, we must learn and grow from the experience. We will continue to challenge ourselves to create optimal learning environments for our students, as they deserve our best effort. Our Kaukauna Strong spirit is alive and well as we enter the next phase of our journey.”
The District and the School Board would like to thank those members throughout the Kaukauna Area School District community who have been a part of this journey, from those on the District Vision Committee, to our Action Teams, the community residents who participated in our Community Reaction Workshops, those who returned our surveys, and those who came to our Community Information Fairs in March. Community involvement throughout the process was critical and the voice of the community will continue to be heard.
