School Closing Guidelines
Emergency Information & Closings
The decision to close schools in severe weather is made after a review of regional weather data, and forecasts from the National Weather Service. We also talk with leaders of other local school districts and our transportation company. We make every effort to announce our decision by 6:00 a.m.
Safety of our students and staff is our greatest concern. In making decisions about cold weather closing or delays, we use a threshold of -35 degrees (F) wind chill, which is the level at which the National Weather Service may issue an advisory or warning. Severe weather may cause any one of the following:

How will I know if school will be delayed or canceled on severe weather days?
If the decision is made to close schools, delay a start time or release students early due to severe weather, we notify our families in a number of ways listed below.
NOTE TO OUR FAMILIES: If KASD opts not to change school schedules or close schools, parents have the right to keep their child(ren) home if they feel that it is in the child's best interest. We ask that parents call the school to inform staff of the child's absence. |
