4K Registration

(4K students residing in the Quinney and Haen attendance areas will go to Tanner Early Learning Center, unless requesting to enroll at Park or NDLC). 

Tanner serves nearly 600 students from early childhood through 1st grade in one unique, special building. The early learning center model offered at Tanner provides students with the building blocks for a lifelong love of learning, by having safe, nurturing and educational environments, focused on age-appropriate concepts and academic growth.

Our incredible staff takes pride in building positive relationships and meeting the individual needs of each of our students. We are committed to providing engaging and memorable experiences that serve as a foundation for learning, using different strategies to meet the needs of each of our students, including, but not limited to: learning centers, technology, art projects, hands-on learning, field trips, songs, books, math and more! Our students leave 4K well-prepared for kindergarten and the academic journey ahead. We are excited to offer KASD families a first school experience that will provide top-notch academic experiences as well as fond memories that will last a lifetime!

(4K students residing in the Park School attendance area will go to Park Community Charter School, unless opting out or choosing to enroll at NDLC.) 

Park Community Charter School is a place-based public charter school serving students in grades 4K through 4. Placed-based education is an approach that connects learning to the community; using partnerships with Kaukauna Utilities, 1000 Islands Environmental Center and the Historic Grignon Mansion, learning targets are met through interactive experiences connected to classroom activities. 

Park Community Charter School practices Conscious Discipline. This brain-based program has created a strong school family environment that focuses on physical and emotional safety for everyone in our school.

(NDLC does not have a specific attendance area; 4K students must choose NDLC.) 

New Directions Learning Community is committed to creating a culture where students, staff and families are empowered together to strive for independent, accepting, empathetic individuals that feel that they have the power and skill to change the world.

NDLC is a public charter school utilizing the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop developed by Columbia University; this collaborative learning approach encourages engagement and deep understanding through discovery learning. Students take ownership of their own education and behaviors, thinking, exploring, questioning, creating and experimenting; teachers facilitate, guide, challenge and support student learning.

 

Our Vision

The vision of the New Directions team is to develop a 4K through 4th grade charter school anchored in research-based best educational practices in all curricular areas. NDLC will utilize the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop curriculum/methodology developed by Columbia University.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of New Directions is to develop student and teacher leaders. Students will be flexible, analytic, collaborative leaders ready for the demands of the 21st century. Staff will implement the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop with fidelity across the elementary curricula in order to strengthen and improve the academic performance of the students. The mission also includes sharing the skills and techniques of the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop with other interested educators inside and outside of the district. NDLC will be a labsite where teachers will model and educate others (teachers within the district, teachers from other districts, and students from surrounding universities in the education program) on the structure and benefits of the workshop. Staff will actively participate in professional development, peer coaching, and collegial study, while collaborating with one another in order to inform future practice and lift the level of student performance. The principal will work in collaboration with teachers to ensure the success of all students.
