Open Enrollment

Wisconsin’s public school choice program allows students in grades kindergarten through 12 to attend any public school district in the state if space is available, subject to certain other restrictions. Open enrollment is for students who want to attend a school outside of the district they currently reside in.

Yes, open enrollment applications can be denied for both resident and non-resident school districts for reasons detailed in state law. If an application is denied, parents can file an appeal within 30 days to DPI.

If parents choose to open enroll students into a district other than the one they currently reside in, the parent is responsible for transporting their child to and from school.
