The Kaukauna Area School District will soon see a number of significant building security updates. The Wisconsin Department of Justice has awarded KASD with a $146,240 School Safety Grant, which will cover the costs for shatter-resistant film for each school's main entrance, as well as upgrades/additions to our schools' camera systems.
As an added bonus, KASD has also accepted the offer to host a School Safety Signing event with a number of other local school districts and the Department of Justice on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Victor Haen Elementary School.
Kaukauna was one of 147 Wisconsin schools to receive grants, now totaling more than $10 million statewide. Grant funds secured through the School Safety Grant program may only be used in specific areas; grant dollars are divided into primary grants that focus on baseline improvements to schools and advanced grants that may be used on specific upgrades for schools already meeting the minimum thresholds.
"We would like to extend our sincere 'thank you' to all that were involved in this process," stated Superintendent Mark Duerwaechter. "These upgrades will be welcome additions to the regular work already being done in all of our buildings to ensure the safety of our students."
The District will add the School Safety Grant funds as an information and discussion item at a Board of Education meeting in August.
