Kaukauna Basketball Coach Mike Schalow was recognized for his many accomplishments during his induction into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 29, 2018.
The Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Assocation inducted 30 new members (high school head coaches, high school assistant coaches, friends of the game, officials and players) into its Hall of Fame at a banquet over the weekend in the Wisconsin Dells.
Coach Schalow is in his 33rd year in education, 24 of which have been at Kaukauna High School. Prior to his success in Kaukauna, he coached at Leland and Dakota High Schools in Illinois and was a Graduate Assistant at Northern Illinois University.
Since coming to Kaukauna, Coach Schalow has maintained a record of 361-184. His teams have earned Fox Valley Association Titles in 1997, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2016 and 2018. The 2001 team reached the state tournament for the first time in the Kaukauna basketball program’s history and the 2012 team earned a spot as runner-up in the 2012 State tournament. The highlight came with a 2016 State tournament championship title, followed by another title in 2018.
In 2018, Coach Schalow was named Wisconsin High School Boys Basketball Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association — the second time receiving the honor in a three-year period. In the fall of 2015, Coach Schalow was honored with the WBCA’s Steve Randall Coaching Award for integrity, passion and professionalism. That same year, he was inducted into the Kaukauna High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
“’It’s a great day to be a Ghost’ said Coach Schalow – every day that I have known him,” remarked Superintendent Mark Duerwaechter. “He is deserving of this honor in every sense of the word, and we are grateful to have him on our team.”
