Carolyn Brown is a caring, compassionate educator who builds genuine and positive relationships with the families of the students she works with. She truly helps her students grow as young adults while providing them with both accountability, yet support at the same time. Over her 25 years within our District she has been and continues to be a true difference-maker in the lives of some of our most challenged and reluctant learners.
Steven Hinz wants his students to be successful and strives to create learning opportunities that help them engage and enjoy science. Steve reaches out to colleagues to help anyway he can and is known to easily share a kind word or his sense of humor with students and colleagues. He has gotten involved in the school through fundraising efforts and being a member of the River View PBIS team.
Sheri Krueger brings music to KASD students in many formats, and students look forward to her music class, her festive classrooms and her compassion. While at Victor Haen Elementary School, Sheri organized Sing for Your Supper, which brought families together to hear holiday music each year, additionally, her 2nd grade concerts have showcased the talents of all of our students, and started New Directions Learning Community's Veterans Day Program.
Laura Lindberg started with the District as an educational assistant in Special Education at Haen School. In 2000, she became an alternative education teacher at River View, and to this day, continually searches for new ways to motivate and encourage students to do their best every day. Laura is heavily involved in the NARENWiCH organization and eagerly brings back information from these conferences to share with colleagues. Students who work with Laura know they are going to get the best version of Laura each day and that they will be held accountable in a trusting and supportive manner.
Brian Sanderfoot is a team player who leads by example within the department and the River View Middle School building. The best interest of students is always his primary focus and this passion comes through when planning activities, pushing his colleagues to do better, coaching tennis and offering to help make things better in the PE department. Brian is a member of the Wellness Committee, is knowledgeable about sports and shares that knowledge willingly and with humility.
Michael Schalow has found many different ways to positively influence his students, players, and school community. From something as simplistic as promoting healthy lifestyles and activities to something as profound as instilling life skills and experiences that will certainly last a lifetime, Mr. Schalow does so with passion, consistency and dedication. No matter what the weather may be outside or whatever date the calendar may show, he will always be the first to remind someone that "It is a GREAT day to be a Ghost!"
Maureen Stoffel is a highly valued member of the Victor Haen Elementary School Community, who can be seen at any point of the day supporting students in and out of the classroom. She is always willing to lend a hand where needed, is incredibly flexible and truly lives as a "lifelong learner". Mo is a mentor to other support staff when handling new situations and always willing to ask "how can I do this better" when coming upon a new situation with a student.
Molly VanDeLoo comes to school every day eager to help students and staff with their health-related needs. Molly has been connected to the Educational Assistants Association for a number of years and has served in a lead role for this group. She is a compassionate and empathetic person, who wants what is best for our students, as shown by her prompt and courteous care of others, her professional contacts with parents and her continued service for the Educational Assistants throughout the District.
"We're so grateful for the work of these dedicated individuals," said Superintendent Mark Duerwachter. "It's staff members like these, who show up every day, prepared to do what's best for kids, who make our district special, strong."
