Dear Parents/Guardians,
This communication is an update regarding the May 13 Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling on the “Safer at Home” Executive Order 28. While the ruling changes conditions in many non-school-related areas, it does not change the section of the order closing public and private 4K-12 schools. Therefore, the Court's decision does not reopen schools; they will remain closed through June 30, the end of the current school year.
The Kaukauna Area School District will complete the school year with the existing plan we have in place. Principals and teachers will communicate important information with students and families, and we will continue working within our flexible learning plan throughout the final weeks of school.
Over the past eight weeks, I have been extremely proud and humbled to see and hear many unique success stories involving teachers, students and parents working together, doing their very best during this time. It frequently reminds me of KASD’s theme for this school year, “BE YOUR BEST SELF TODAY!” The origin of this theme is Maya Angelou’s, famous quote: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.” This sentiment has and continues to guide our work with students and families. On behalf of the Kaukauna Area School District, I would like to share our deep appreciation and gratitude for your continued support.
Kaukauna Strong!
Sincerely,
Mark P. Duerwaechter,
Superintendent
