Freshmen must carry a minimum of six credits. Required subjects include English, mathematics, science, social studies, and physical education.
Students who are interested in advanced/accelerated placement in English and/or world languages should initially register for English 9 and the level of Spanish/French that they feel they should be placed in.
The criteria below will be used to determine the appropriate level. There is no guarantee that if a student signs up for Spanish II or French II that they will have met the criteria. If listed below is not met, they will be placed back into Spanish I or French I.
Accelerated Placement in Honors English 9
Students will be evaluated for placement based on meeting criteria on at least four of the following data points:
- Top 15% on 8th grade reading MAP test
- Teacher recommendation for strong English students
- Written assessment (by invitation for those meeting the MAP criteria and/or teacher recommendation) which will be assessed on the KHS essay summative rubric
Accelerated Placement in French II or Spanish II
- Passing grade in River View French I – OR – River View French 8, including a B or higher and 80% or higher on the Placement Test
- Passing grade in River View Spanish I – OR – River View Spanish 8, including a B or higher and 80% or higher on the Placement Test
Accelerated Placement in Geometry/Advanced Algebra
If a student successfully completes Algebra or Geometry as an 8th grader, the student may select the course next in the math sequence, Geometry or Advanced Algebra as a freshman. Only students meeting the identified criteria may be allowed to program for Geometry or Advanced Algebra for the 2020-21 school year at Kaukauna High School.
Accelerated Placement in Honors Biology
Score of at least 19 on the ACT Explore Science Test, no lower than 3’s on the 21st Century Skills Report for 7thand 8th grade science courses, and a proficiency grade level of Math and English Language Arts on MAP testing.
