Wellness Screening
As parents you are aware that the physical and mental health of your young person plays a key role in their ability to succeed in school, have rewarding relationships with family members and friends, and the ability to lead productive and happy lives.
The Kaukauna Area School District is committed to working with you, not only to educate your children, but to ensure that they reach their full potential inside and outside the classroom. We are offering freshmen students the opportunity to participate in an emotional health Wellness Screening.
Wellness Screening is a program to identify risk factors associated with depression, anxiety, and alcohol and substance abuse. The program is free and completely voluntary and confidential.
The Teen years are a time of tremendous change. The Wellness Screening program can help parents better understand the changes their teens are experiencing. No matter what the result of your teen's screening, the program will provide you with important information.
For most parents, this screening will reassure you that your student is just experiencing typical "growing pains." For other parents, the screening can help you pinpoint a problem in its early stages, giving you the ability to secure needed help for your teen and reduce the chance that a more significant problem will develop in the future.
In order for your son or daughter to participate in Wellness Screening you must provide written consent. Once consent from parents is obtained, teen consent is obtained to participate.
Wellness Screening is a two-step process. First students complete a 10 minute computerized questionnaire and secondly, every student meets with a staff member to discuss the screening. ONLY if there are concerns does staff contact parents. When there are concerns, staff help families overcome barriers and connect the family to a resource in the community to secure needed help.
