Each school within KASD is serviced by a School Nurse (A professional Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin), along with school health educational assistants. It's the job of the school nurse to deliver and maintain comprehensive school health programs and provide support to students to optimize their health and education experience. Some of the many responsibilities of our nurses include:
- Caring for sick or injured students
- Caring for students requiring specialized, individual care
- Overseeing routine health issues
- Handling emergency situations
- Serving as a resource for students, staff and families in identifying and addressing health education needs, providing strategies, skills and training to achieve optimal wellness
- Establishing procedures for the prevention and control of communicable diseases
- Working with district administration to develop and revise school health policies, procedures and standing orders
- Promoting health in the community in any way necessary
